Whenever our customers ask us for our recommendation on a great celebration drink, we always walk them straight over to the Cipriani Bellini to educate them on our love for this wine.
OCCASION: A timeless cocktail for any occasion. The Bellini is, however, tightly tied to the Italian tradition of aperitivo.
So, it is best shared in good company with tasty snacks in hand.
The story of the drink dedicated to life and liberty
In 1948, memories of war and the emancipation were still fresh in the hearts of people across Europe. It was at this time when Giuseppe Cipriani, in the newly opened Harry’s Bar, decided to celebrate peace and freedom with a cocktail that embodied the energetic joy of the moment: the Bellini.
The Bellini’s name was inspired by the famous Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Bellini, also known as Giambellino. After seeing his lifework collection on display at the Ducal Palace in Venice in 1948, Giuseppe Cipriani used the artist’s namesake to honor the ideals of beauty and freedom.
Thus, the Bellini became a part of history as a classic, an eternal symbol of freedom, art, and refined revelry.
Serving Ettiquette for the Bellini is not a wine or a champagne glass which we have come accustomed to here in Australia. It is traditionally served in a tall glass (similar to a beer glass) as in Harry's Bar this drink was "not to impose awkward postures or gestures while drinking, it should allow you to savour the lively taste of the white peaches".
